Product Overview

The ASM SIPLACE D1i is a flexible single-gantry SMT placement machine designed to handle both standard SMD components and larger or more complex devices. Depending on the installed configuration, the machine can operate with a 12-nozzle Collect&Place head, a 6-nozzle Collect&Place head, a SIPLACE Pick&Place head, or a combination of two placement heads.

Originally introduced under the Siemens SIPLACE product family, the D1i is also widely identified in the market as the Siemens SIPLACE D1i, ASM D1i or ASMPT SIPLACE D1i. It remains a practical option for manufacturers that already operate SIPLACE equipment and require an additional machine, replacement unit or capacity expansion without investing in a current-generation platform.

SIPLACE D1i Placement Head Configurations

One of the main characteristics of the D1i platform is its configurable placement-head arrangement. The installed head combination should be checked carefully because it determines the machine's component range, placement rate and suitability for a specific production program.

12-Nozzle Collect&Place Head

The C&P12 head is intended for efficient placement of standard chip components. It collects multiple components during one cycle, optically centers them while moving toward the PCB and places them at the required position and angle.

6-Nozzle Collect&Place Head

The C&P6 head provides a balance between placement speed and component flexibility. It may be selected for component mixes that cannot be handled efficiently with the 12-nozzle head alone.

SIPLACE Pick&Place Head

The Pick&Place head is designed for accurate handling of fine-pitch, special-shape, larger or more complex components. It supports optical component centering, controlled rotation and monitored placement force.

Typical Two-Head Combinations

  • C&P12 head combined with a Pick&Place head

  • C&P6 head combined with a Pick&Place head

A machine supplied with only one placement head may differ from a full D1i two-head configuration. The exact installed head type, nozzle changer, camera and related hardware should therefore be listed clearly in the quotation.

D1i Placement Performance by Head Type

Placement HeadIPC RateSIPLACE BenchmarkTheoretical Rate
C&P1213,000 CPH15,000 CPH20,000 CPH
C&P68,400 CPH9,800 CPH11,500 CPH
Pick&Place2,600 CPH2,800 CPH3,500 CPH

Actual production output is affected by the PCB program, component distribution, feeder arrangement, conveyor mode, vision inspection requirements, board transfer time and machine condition. The theoretical rate should not be treated as the guaranteed output of a used machine.

Single and Flexible Dual Conveyor Options

Single Conveyor

The single-conveyor configuration processes one PCB at a time and supports a broad board-size range. It is suitable when the production program requires larger boards or a conventional single-lane SMT line arrangement.

Flexible Dual Conveyor

The flexible dual conveyor can operate in synchronous or asynchronous mode. In synchronous mode, two boards may be processed as a common panel. In asynchronous mode, one board can enter or leave while another board is being processed, helping reduce non-productive board-transfer time.

Before selecting a machine, confirm the required PCB width, length, thickness, underside clearance, transport direction, conveyor height and SMEMA connection.

Component and Feeder Compatibility

The SIPLACE D1i can work with several component-feeding methods, including tape feeders, stick magazines, trays, bulk cases and special feeder modules. Its maximum feeder capacity is commonly expressed as up to 90 tracks when calculated with 3 × 8 mm S feeder modules.

Wider feeders require more feeder-table space, so the actual number of installed feeders decreases when 12/16 mm, 24/32 mm, 44 mm or wider modules are used. Feeder quantity must therefore be calculated from the customer's BOM and tape-width distribution rather than from the maximum 8 mm track count alone.

Matching ASM SIPLACE feeders, feeder carts, nozzles and replacement modules can be supplied according to the machine configuration and production requirements.

Can the SIPLACE D1i Place 01005 Components?

The SIPLACE D1i platform was prepared for 01005 component placement, but a machine should not be described as 01005-ready based only on its model name. The correct camera, nozzles, sleeves, feeder modules, software version and process conditions must be present.

When 01005 capability is required, confirm the installed camera type, nozzle specification, station software, SIPLACE programming software and feeder condition before shipment. A placement test using representative components is recommended.

Suitable Applications for the ASM SIPLACE D1i

The D1i is particularly suitable for production environments where component flexibility is more important than the maximum output of a modern high-speed placement platform. Typical applications may include:

  • Industrial control boards

  • Automotive electronic assemblies

  • Communication and networking products

  • Power supply and inverter control boards

  • Medical and instrumentation electronics

  • Consumer electronic assemblies

  • Mixed-component and high-mix PCB production

  • Existing SIPLACE production-line capacity expansion

Final machine suitability should be evaluated from the PCB size, BOM, component package range, target cycle time, required feeder quantity and available factory utilities.

Used SIPLACE D1i Inspection Before Shipment

A used D1i should be evaluated according to its actual installed configuration and operating condition rather than only by model number or external appearance. An agreed inspection and factory acceptance test can include the following items:

  • Machine nameplate, serial number and manufacturing information

  • Installed placement-head model and head quantity

  • Nozzle changer and available nozzle inventory

  • Gantry, linear drive and axis movement condition

  • Placement-head vacuum, force and component sensors

  • Camera recognition and illumination functions

  • PCB conveyor movement, clamping and width adjustment

  • Single or flexible dual-conveyor configuration

  • Feeder-table, trolley and feeder communication condition

  • Computer, operating system and SIPLACE software status

  • Safety covers, interlocks and emergency-stop functions

  • Dry-cycle operation and available placement-test results

  • Power supply, compressed-air connection and factory compatibility

Photos, videos, configuration lists and agreed test records can be prepared before shipment. Available SMT spare parts and SMT machine repair and calibration support can also be discussed for long-term operation.
